When you are a landlord or tenant, you need to give an address where you can get notices and documents about the tenancy. This address is called an address for service. You must give a physical address in New Zealand. When you give an address for service, you can also give a Post Office box number or an electronic address. An electronic address can be an email address, a facsimile number, a mobile telephone number, or an instant messaging account. This is so you can get information and keep it for later. You can find more information about the rules for addresses for service in the Residential Tenancies Act 1986 and the Residential Tenancies Amendment Act 2024.
