Weights and Measures Act 1987

System of weights and measures and standards - Standards of weights and measures

7A: Accredited persons' working standards

You could also call this:

“Rules for keeping and checking measurement tools used by certified measurers”

If you are an accredited person, you need to keep certain measurement standards. The Secretary decides which standards you need to keep so you can do your job properly under this Act.

You must check your measurement standards regularly to make sure they are correct. For most standards, you need to check them at least once every 12 months. You can check them against the departmental standards, reference standards, or other approved standards mentioned in section 5(3).

If you have standards made of glass that measure volume, you need to check these less often. You only need to check these glass standards once every 10 years. You can check them against the same types of standards as the other measurements.

When you check your standards, you’re making sure they match up with the official measurements kept by the government. This helps to keep all measurements accurate and consistent across New Zealand.
