Weights and Measures Act 1987

Administration - Appointment and powers of Inspectors

27: Certificates of appointment

You could also call this:

“What inspectors need to know about their job certificates”

When you become an Inspector or trainee Inspector, you’ll get a special certificate. This certificate proves that you’ve been appointed to do this job according to the law.

Your certificate will have some important information on it. It will mention this part of the law, your full name, and talk about the special powers you have as an Inspector. These powers are explained in another part of the law called section 28.

You need to show this certificate in certain situations. If you go into a place, like a building or someone’s property, you should show your certificate when you enter. You also need to show it if the owner, the person in charge, or anyone working for them asks to see it.

If you stop a vehicle, you should show your certificate as soon as you can. You also need to show it if the owner or driver of the vehicle asks to see it.
