Weights and Measures Act 1987

Use of weights and measures for trade

8: Obligations to use metric system of weights and measures

You could also call this:

“Rules about using metric measurements for buying, selling, and making agreements”

You must use the metric system of weights and measures when dealing with trade or making contracts. This means you can’t use any other system of measurement, like imperial units, when you’re buying, selling, or agreeing to do work. You also can’t use measuring tools that don’t show metric units. If you do any of these things, you’re breaking the law. However, there are some exceptions to this rule, which are explained in another part of the law called section 9.
