Weights and Measures Act 1987

Use of weights and measures for trade

9: Exceptions to obligations to use metric system of weights and measures

You could also call this:

“When you can use different ways of measuring things instead of the metric system”

You don’t always have to use the metric system of weights and measures when doing business. There are two main exceptions:

  1. When you’re making deals or agreements about sending goods to or getting goods from a country that doesn’t use the metric system, you can use their system instead.

  2. When you’re weighing or measuring things for a deal involving goods going to or coming from a country that doesn’t use the metric system, you can use their system of weights and measures.

These exceptions allow you to use other systems of measurement when you’re doing business with countries that don’t use the metric system, making it easier to trade with them.
