Illustration for Human Assisted Reproductive Technology Act 2004

The Minister can choose people to be on the advisory committee and they have to ask others for advice first. You might be chosen if you have the right skills and can represent different viewpoints. The Minister decides what the terms and conditions of the job are, including how much you get paid. The advisory committee must have people with different areas of expertise, such as assisted reproductive procedures, human reproductive research, and ethics. They must also have at least one Māori member and one member who can represent consumers. At least half of the members must be laypersons, which means they are not health practitioners, not involved in health research, and not employed by or associated with a health provider, as defined in the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003.
