The advisory committee helps the Minister make decisions about human reproductive research. You need to know that the committee gives the Minister information, advice, and recommendations on certain topics, such as cloned embryos, donations of human embryos, and genetic modification of human gametes and embryos. The committee also provides advice on human gametes from foetuses or deceased persons, hybrid embryos, and requirements for informed consent.

The committee advises the Minister on the import and export of human gametes or embryos that have been created in a laboratory. When the committee talks about hybrid embryos, it does not include mixtures of animal and human gametes that are used for diagnostic tests. The committee works with the Minister to decide on these important topics and provides its advice within a certain time frame.

The Minister and the committee work together to make sure they have all the information they need to make good decisions about human reproductive research, including the use of gametes and embryos in research, and the rules around importing and exporting these cells.
