Freedom Camping Act 2011

44: Orders in Council to specify track as Great Walks Track

You could also call this:

“The Government can add or remove tracks from the Great Walks list”

The Governor-General can make changes to the list of Great Walks Tracks. They can do this by making an Order in Council after the Minister of Conservation recommends it. There are two things they can do:

  1. They can add a new track to the list of Great Walks Tracks. This is important for section 5(3) of the Act.

  2. They can remove a track that is already listed in Schedule 1.

When the Governor-General makes an order like this, it’s called secondary legislation. This means it has to follow special rules about how it’s published, which you can find in Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019.
