19B: Notices permitting freedom camping on LINZ land

You could also call this:

“Rules for camping on government land”

You can freedom camp on some land that belongs to Land Information New Zealand (LINZ). This land is managed under different laws.

For land managed under the Crown Pastoral Land Act 1998 or the Land Act 1948, a person called the commissioner can decide where you can freedom camp. They will publish a notice that tells you where you can camp and any rules you need to follow.

For land managed under the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Act 2011, the Public Works Act 1981, or the New Zealand Railways Corporation Act 1981, someone called the chief executive can decide where you can freedom camp. They will also publish a notice that tells you where you can camp and what rules you need to follow.

These notices are considered secondary legislation. This means they are official rules that you need to follow, just like other laws.
