Freedom Camping Act 2011

Enforcement, miscellaneous, and transitional provisions - Offences, defences, and penalties - Infringement offences

20E: Penalties for infringement offences

You could also call this:

“Punishments for breaking freedom camping rules”

If you commit an infringement offence under this law, you can be penalised in different ways. You might have to pay an infringement fee, which is a set amount of money. This fee can be up to $1,000, and the exact amount is decided by rules made under section 43 of this law. If no specific rules have been made about the fee, you’ll have to pay $400. Another possibility is that a court might fine you. This fine can be up to $3,000, or it might be less if the rules say so. The court decides how much you have to pay, but it can’t be more than $3,000 or the amount set in the rules, whichever is lower.
