Dog Control Act 1996

Dog control officers and dog rangers

19: Power of constable, dog control officer, or dog ranger to request information about owner

You could also call this:

"Authorities can ask dog owners for their details and you must tell them the truth."

If you are in charge of a dog, a constable, dog control officer, or dog ranger can ask you for your name, date of birth, address, phone number, and where you work. They can also ask the person who owns the land where the dog is being kept for this information. You must tell them your details if they ask. If you say you are not the dog's owner, you must give them the owner's name, address, and where they work if you know it.

If you do not give them the information they ask for, or if you give them false information, you can be fined up to $3,000. A constable, dog control officer, or dog ranger can seize and impound the dog if they think you have broken the rules and you have been warned before. They can also arrest you without a warrant if they think you have broken other dog control rules.
