Dog Control Act 1996

Custody of dogs

67: Provision of pound facilities

You could also call this:

"Where councils keep dogs that are taken into custody"

When you have a dog that is taken into custody, it needs to be looked after properly. You expect the local council to make sure there is a safe place for the dog to be kept. The council can do this by building a dog pound or by working with someone else to provide a safe place for the dog.

The council can choose to build and run a dog pound on its own or with other councils. It can also make an agreement with someone to take care of the dogs. The council gets to decide what the agreement will say and what rules the person taking care of the dogs will have to follow.
