Dog Control Act 1996

66A: Jurisdiction for category 1 offences

You could also call this:

"Who deals with serious dog offences under the Dog Control Act"

The District Court, with 2 or more Justices of the Peace, has the power to deal with category 1 offences under the Dog Control Act 1996. This means you can go to the District Court if you have a problem with a category 1 offence. The District Court's power does not apply to some specific offences, which are described in sections like section 32(2), section 57(2), section 57A(2), section 61(2), section 62(4), and section 78(3).

When the law talks about a category 1 offence, it means the same thing as in section 6(1) of the Criminal Procedure Act 2011. You can find out what a category 1 offence is by looking at that section. This helps you understand what the District Court can do.
