Dog Control Act 1996

Miscellaneous provisions

78C: Matters to which Minister must have regard before recommending Order in Council under section 78A

You could also call this:

"What the Minister must think about before making new dog rules"

Before the Minister recommends making a new rule under section 78A, they must think about each breed or type of dog. They need to talk to people from local government, animal welfare organisations, dog clubs, and veterinary practices. The Minister must also think about some important things, like how aggressive a breed or type of dog is.

The Minister has to consider if a breed or type of dog is likely to attack, and if it's a risk to public safety if it's not listed in Schedule 4. They must also think about how much people value the breed or type as a companion, and how it's classified in other countries. The Minister can think about any other things they believe are relevant too.

The Minister must do all this before they recommend making a new rule, to make sure they have all the information they need.
