When you read this part of the law, some words have special meanings. A civil proceeding is a case that is not about a crime, and it includes cases under the Bail Act 2000. A decision can be a judgment, decree, order, direction, or determination. You need to know what some other words mean too. The District Court includes the Family Court and the Youth Court. The High Court can sit in its admiralty jurisdiction or as a Prize Court under section 8 of the Admiralty Act 1973. Some words are defined in a specific way, like interlocutory application, which is an application in a proceeding for an order or direction. A New Zealand court can be the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, or the District Court, and it also includes specialist courts like the Employment Court. The Registrar is the Registrar of the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court is the one continued by section 66.
