The Governor-General can appoint one or more acting Associate Judges on the advice of the Attorney-General. You are eligible for this appointment if you are a District Court Judge or under 75 years old and have retired or resigned as an Associate Judge or a District Court Judge. The Governor-General can make this appointment if an Associate Judge is ill or absent, or for any other temporary reason. The Chief High Court Judge decides how much an acting Associate Judge can do during their appointment. You can be authorised to act at specific times or in specific places as an acting Associate Judge. The Chief High Court Judge makes these decisions.
