Illustration for Local Government (Rating) Act 2002

When you read sections 31 to 36, the term 'relevant local authority' refers to the territorial authority where the rating unit is located. You can think of a territorial authority as the local council that looks after the area where the rating unit is. If the rating unit is in an area that also has a regional council, then the relevant local authority includes the regional council as well.
