Illustration for Local Government (Rating) Act 2002

When you get a notice about a rating unit, it means the Registrar has received a certificate and fee as required under section 67. The Registrar must then tell all people who have an interest in the rating unit about certain matters. You will be told that the rating unit has unpaid rates and will be sold or leased if payments are not made.

The notice will say that to stop the sale or lease, you must pay the High Court the amount of the unpaid rates and costs, plus interest, within six months. You must also pay all rates due on the unit up to the date of payment, and the Registrar's charges. If you do not make these payments, the rating unit will be sold or leased.

The Registrar sends this notice to make sure everyone with an interest in the rating unit knows what is happening and what they need to do to stop the sale or lease.
