Public Service Act 2020

Preliminary provisions - Provisions for operation of Act

6: References to departments in enactments

You could also call this:

"What happens when laws mention government departments or groups"

When you read other laws, you might see references to government departments. These references include special groups that work across different departments, agencies that are part of a department, and executive boards that work with multiple departments. You should know that these references are quite broad.

If a law mentions the person in charge of a department, it can also mean the group in charge of a special project, the person in charge of an agency, or an executive board. These laws use general language to cover many different situations. This helps make sure the laws are flexible and can be applied in many contexts.

Sometimes a law will even mention a specific definition of a department, like the one in section 5, but this section can still apply. This means that the law is trying to be as inclusive as possible. You can think of it like a rule that helps make sure all the different parts of the government are working together smoothly.
