Local Government (Water Services Preliminary Arrangements) Act 2024

Alternative requirements and additional powers - Additional powers and exemption

67: Ability to conditionally approve amending long-term plan

You could also call this:

"Approving changes to a long-term plan if other councils do the same thing."

If you are a territorial authority, you might need to change your long-term plan when setting up or joining a joint water services company. You have to do this if you are working with other authorities under section 137 of the LGA2002. You might need to amend your plan or include the joint company in your new plan.

You can approve these changes, but only if the other authorities involved also make similar changes to their plans. This means they must either approve the same amendments to their plans or include the same details when they adopt their new plans.

When you make these conditional approvals, you are relying on the other authorities to take the same steps with their plans.
