Local Government (Water Services Preliminary Arrangements) Act 2024

Watercare Services Limited - Related amendments to Local Government (Auckland Council) Act 2009

110: New sections 57A and 57B inserted

You could also call this:

"New rules about paying back money owed for water services are added to the law."

If you look at the law about water services, you will see some new rules. You need to know that an Auckland water organisation has to pay back any money it owes to the Auckland Council for water services infrastructure. This includes any interest that is payable, and you can find more information about this in the law.

The Auckland water organisation must pay back the debt, even if something in section 56A says it does not have to. You can pay back the debt in instalments, which means you can pay a little bit at a time. The debt must be paid in full within 5 years of when this new rule starts.

There is also a rule that says these new rules will be removed after 5 years. This means that section 57A and section 57B will not be part of the law anymore after 5 years. You should be aware that this change will happen automatically after 5 years.
