National Parks Act 1980

National parks - Establishment, exclusion of land from, and definition of parks

8: Investigation of proposals to add to parks or establish new parks

You could also call this:

"Exploring ideas for new parks or making current parks bigger"

The New Zealand Conservation Authority can ask the Director-General to look into and report on ideas for new national parks or adding land to existing parks. When this happens, the Director-General needs to do two things, unless the Authority says otherwise. First, they must put notices in newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, and the area affected by the proposal. Second, in these notices, they need to ask people and groups to send in their thoughts about the idea in writing. The Director-General also has to tell the government minister responsible about the proposal they're looking into.
