National Parks Act 1980

National Parks and Reserves Authority

18: Functions of Authority

You could also call this:

"The National Parks and Reserves Authority's main jobs in looking after national parks"

The National Parks and Reserves Authority has several important jobs to do. You should know that they:

Make and approve general rules for national parks. These rules help everyone understand how the parks should be managed.

Look at and approve plans for managing national parks. They can also change these plans or review them when needed.

Help decide how to spend money that the government gives for national parks. They tell the Minister or the Director-General what they think is most important.

Check how well the general rules for national parks are working. They report back to the Minister or Director-General about this.

Think about adding new areas to national parks or creating completely new national parks. They can suggest ideas for this.

Give advice to the Minister or Director-General about anything to do with national parks.

It's important to know that the Authority doesn't make plans for a special place called Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki. This place has different rules.
