44General policy for parks
The Authority may, in accordance with subsections (2) to (7), adopt statements of general policy for national parks and amend such statements so that they are adapted to changing circumstances or in accordance with increased knowledge.
Every statement of general policy shall be prepared initially in draft form by the Director-General in consultation with the Authority.
Unless the Authority acting under subsection (7) otherwise resolves, the Director-General shall, on the direction of the Authority,—
- give notice by advertisement published in daily newspapers circulating in the cities of Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin of the availability of the draft statement of general policy for public inspection; and
- in that notice invite persons and organisations interested to lodge with the Director-General written comments on the draft statements of general policy before a date specified in the notice being not less than 2 months after the date of publication of the notice; and
- make the draft statement of general policy available for public inspection, free of charge, during ordinary office hours at the office of the Director-General at Wellington and at such other places as the Authority decides.
The Director-General shall convey any comments received by him, together with any comments of his own, to the Authority which shall review the draft statement of general policy.
Before adopting any statement of general policy the Authority shall submit the draft statement to the Minister for his comments.
In adopting any statement of general policy the Authority shall
have regard to the views of the Minister.The provisions of this section relating to the adoption of statements of general policy shall apply to every amendment of any such statement, except that the Authority may, if it thinks fit, resolve that the procedure specified in subsection (3) need not be followed.
Every current statement of general policy adopted by the Authority shall be available for public inspection free of charge during ordinary office hours at the office of the Director-General at Wellington and at such other places as the Authority decides.
