"Councils can give money to help national parks"

Local councils in New Zealand can use their money to help with national parks. They can give money to the government to buy land for new national parks or to make existing parks better. This is true even if the national park is not in the local council's area. The money can be used to buy land, look after the park, or make improvements to the park.
