10Coroner defined
In this Act, coroner means a person appointed under section 103 and, except as provided in this section, includes—
- the chief coroner; and
- the deputy chief coroner; and
- a person who (under section 22(a) of the District Court Act 2016) is a coroner by virtue of holding office as a District Court Judge; and
- a relief coroner.
In the following sections, coroner does not include the chief coroner:
- section 105(2) (appointment of chief coroner):
- section 105A(1) (deputy chief coroner):
- section 106 (acting chief coroner):

- sections 105(5) and 110(4) (resignation as chief coroner but not as coroner):
- section 112 (resignation).
In the following sections, coroner does not, except as provided in section 109(2)(a), include a person who (under section 22(a) of the District Court Act 2016) is a coroner by virtue of holding office as a District Court Judge:
- section 108 (coroners act full-time unless authorised to act part-time):
- section 109 (maximum number of coroners):
- section 110 (salaries and allowances):
- section 112 (resignation):
- section 114 (removal).
In the following sections, coroner does not include a relief coroner:
- section 7 (chief coroner's functions):
- section 104 (relief coroners):

- section 109 (maximum number of coroners).
