You can make complaints about the conduct of coroners and associate coroners. They are dealt with under the Judicial Conduct Commissioner and Judicial Conduct Panel Act 2004 because coroners and associate coroners are Judges as defined in section 5 of that Act. This means complaints are made, received, and dealt with in accordance with this Act. If you make a complaint about the chief coroner, it may be referred to the chief coroner under section 17 of that Act. The Commissioner or the Deputy Commissioner may also refer the complaint to the Attorney-General. This is how complaints about the chief coroner are handled.

113Complaints

  1. Complaints about the conduct of coroners and associate coroners may be made, received, and dealt with in accordance with the Judicial Conduct Commissioner and Judicial Conduct Panel Act 2004 because coroners and associate coroners are Judges as defined in section 5 of that Act.

  2. If a complaint is made about the conduct of the chief coroner and, under section 17 of that Act, the Commissioner or the Deputy Commissioner must refer the complaint to the chief coroner, the Commissioner or the Deputy Commissioner may also refer the complaint to the Attorney-General.
