Illustration for Coroners Act 2006

You are a coroner or associate coroner. You work full-time unless the Attorney-General says you can work part-time. The Attorney-General can let you work part-time for a certain period. You must go back to working full-time when that period ends. You can only work part-time if you ask to and the chief coroner agrees. The chief coroner thinks about whether coronial investigations will be done in an orderly way when deciding. Your work arrangement cannot be changed without your consent, except when you have to go back to full-time. If you are a District Court Judge, these rules do not apply to you. You are a coroner because you are a District Court Judge, as stated in section 22(a) of the District Court Act 2016.

            1. with the concurrence of the chief coroner.
              1. In considering whether to concur under subsection (4)(b), the chief coroner must have regard to the need for coronial investigations to be conducted in an orderly and expeditious way.

              2. A coroner or an associate coroner who is authorised to act part-time must resume acting full-time at the end of the authorised part-time period.

              3. The basis on which a coroner or an associate coroner acts must not be altered during the term of their appointment without their consent, but consent under this subsection is not necessary if the alteration is required by subsection (6).
