The Commissioner can close the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand without telling people in advance if there's an emergency or other temporary problem. This can happen if it's not possible to let everyone know beforehand.

If the Commissioner does close the office without warning, they need to tell people about it as soon as they can. They will do this by making a public announcement, following the rules set out in section 5(3) of the Patents Act 2013.
