The Retirement Commissioner keeps a list of people they think are suitable to be on a disputes panel. You can be approved for any disputes panel or just one specific panel. The Commissioner decides how long the approval lasts, but it cannot be more than 5 years. The Commissioner can take your name off the list if you cannot do the job, have died, or have been bankrupt. You can also ask to have your name removed. If you have been on the list for more than 5 years, your name will be removed. If your name is removed, the Commissioner can put it back on the list if they think you are suitable again. The Commissioner makes these decisions to ensure the disputes panel has the right people on it. This helps the panel make fair decisions when people disagree about something related to retirement villages.
