In this part of the law, some words have special meanings. When you see the term organised activity, it means something like a cultural, educational, sporting, or recreational event that happens in New Zealand. You might see an organised activity that is planned, happening now, or has already happened.

The term sponsor refers to someone who helps with an organised activity. You can sponsor an event by organising or promoting it, or by giving money or other help before, during, or after it happens. This can include giving money or help to someone who is running the event or taking part in it, as explained in the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990.

When someone sponsors an event, they might give help in different ways, such as giving money or other things to the person running the event. They might also give help to someone who is taking part in the event. This help can be given before, during, or after the event takes place.
