When you buy a regulated product, it must follow the rules set by the government. You will find these rules in special regulations that apply to that product. If the product is being sold, it must be in a package and the package must have the right amount of product inside, as stated in the regulations.

The package itself must also follow certain rules, such as complying with section 52 which is about the messages and information on the package. The package can show the brand or company name, but only if it follows the regulations. The package must comply with all the regulations in every other way.

50Standardised packaging of regulated products

  1. A regulated product—

  2. must comply with the requirements in regulations that apply to that product; and
    1. if sold or offered for sale,—
      1. must be contained in a package; and
        1. must be packaged in a quantity that complies with regulations.

        2. The package for a regulated product—

        3. must comply with section 52 (which relates to messages and information); and
          1. other than part of the package that is wrapping or lining, may display the brand or company name for the product, but only in accordance with regulations; and
            1. must comply with regulations in all other respects.
