If you are smoking or vaping in a car with a child, a police officer can stop you. The officer can ask you to stop the car and stay stopped for a bit. They can also ask you to stop smoking or vaping.

If the officer thinks someone in the car is under 18, they can ask for that person's details, like their name, address, and date of birth. The officer can do this if they are in uniform or in another car following you. They might use flashing lights or a siren to get you to stop.

But if the car is a special kind of vehicle that people live in, and it's parked on the side of the road, the officer can't make you stop smoking or vaping or ask for your details.
