Fair Trading Act 1986

Product safety

30A: Product safety policy statements

You could also call this:

“The Minister can make, change, or cancel rules to help keep products safe”

The Minister can create a product safety policy statement if they think it’s needed. This statement can be about any type of goods and helps consumers, retailers, and manufacturers understand how to keep those goods safe.

The Minister can change, cancel, or replace these statements whenever they want. But before they do any of these things, they must talk to people who will be affected by the statement. These people get a chance to share their thoughts, and the Minister has to think about what they say.

The chief executive has to make sure everyone can see these statements on the Ministry’s website. They can also share the statements in other ways if they think it’s a good idea.
