Racing - Transfer of assets and surplus venues

23: Interpretation

“This part explains important words used in the racing law”

In this part of the law about racing, there are some important words you need to understand.

A “surplus racing venue” or “surplus venue” is a racing place that a racing club owns fully. The racing code that the club is part of decides if it’s a surplus venue. But if the land is a reserve under the Reserves Act 1977, or if there are buildings on reserve land under that Act, it’s not counted as a surplus venue.

The word “transfer” means a few different things in this law. It can mean to give something to someone else or to change who owns a piece of land. It can also mean to give someone rights over things or money. Lastly, it can mean to change ownership through a special government order called an Order in Council.

These definitions help you understand what these words mean when you see them in this part of the law about racing.
