TAB New Zealand

56: Selection panel

You could also call this:

“A group of people helps choose who will run TAB New Zealand”

The Minister must create a selection panel to recommend people for the governing body of TAB New Zealand. This panel helps choose the first members and fill any empty spots for members nominated by racing codes.

Before the panel can suggest anyone, the Minister needs to decide what skills and qualifications they want the nominees to have. These must be related to the things mentioned in section 55(5). The Minister then asks for nominations.

The panel has to give racing codes, recognised industry organisations, and Sport and Recreation New Zealand at least 4 weeks to suggest people. After that, the panel looks at all the nominations.

Before the panel recommends someone, they have to do a probity check. This means they check if the person is honest and has good character. To help with these checks, the Minister chooses a probity adviser.
