13: Membership of Racing New Zealand

You could also call this:

“Who makes up Racing New Zealand's board and how long they can serve”

Racing New Zealand has a board with five members. Three of these members come from different racing groups: one from New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing, one from Harness Racing New Zealand, and one from New Zealand Greyhound Racing. The other two members are not part of any racing group. These two are chosen either by all the racing groups working together, or by the Minister if the groups can’t agree.

When you become a board member, you can stay for up to 3 years. After that, you might be chosen again for another 3 years. Even if your time is up, you keep working until someone new takes your place or you’re chosen again.

You can stop being a board member whenever you want by writing a letter to the board. The racing groups working together can also remove you if you’re not doing a good job or if you behave badly.

The board can decide how it wants to run things, as long as it follows these rules.
