Illustration for Reserves Act 1977

The Minister can let certain groups spend money from some reserves on other things. You might be wondering what kind of groups and reserves we are talking about. These groups are in charge of recreation or local purpose reserves and are also territorial authorities or regional councils.

If the Minister says it is okay, these groups can use some or all of the money they get from trees on the reserve. They can use this money for things that they are allowed to spend money on. The Minister, along with the Minister of Local Government, can also tell the group to use the money for a specific purpose, and you can find more information about this in the Local Government Act 2002.

The group has to follow the rules and use the money for things they are allowed to do. The Minister has the power to make decisions about how the money is used. You can learn more about how the Minister makes these decisions by reading about the Local Government Act 2002.
