Reserves Act 1977

Administration

11: Department may engage persons on contract

You could also call this:

"The Department can hire people to work for them on a contract to help get jobs done."

Illustration for Reserves Act 1977

The Department can hire people to do work for them with the Minister's approval. They can decide what work needs to be done and what the terms of the contract will be. You can read more about the rules for government employees in the Public Service Act 2020 and the Government Superannuation Fund Act 1956. Just because someone has a contract with the Department, it does not mean they are a government employee. The Department makes these decisions to help achieve the purposes of the Reserves Act.
