Illustration for Reserves Act 1977

When you read other laws or documents that mention the Minister in charge of the Scenery Preservation Act 1908, you should think of it as referring to the Minister of Conservation. If a document talks about a public reserve, you should understand it as referring to a reserve as defined in this Act. You will also see changes in what some reserves are called, such as a reserve for flora and fauna now being called a nature reserve.

You will see some reserves have new names, like a racecourse reserve now being called a recreation reserve for racecourse purposes. A private scenic reserve or a private historic reserve will now be referred to as protected private land declared under section 76. Some laws have been changed, and you can find out how in Schedule 2.
