Student Loan Scheme Act 2011

Preliminary matters, loan advances, and New Zealand-based and overseas-based borrowers - Determining whether borrowers are New Zealand-based or overseas-based - Certain borrowers may be treated as being physically in New Zealand

27: Commissioner must notify borrower and specify period or conditions when granting application

You could also call this:

“Student loan boss tells you when you're treated as being in NZ”

When the Commissioner decides to treat you as being physically in New Zealand for student loan purposes, they need to let you know about it. They will send you a written notice. In this notice, they will tell you one of two things:

  1. They will give you the start and end dates for when you are considered to be in New Zealand, or

  2. They will explain any conditions you need to meet or follow to be treated as if you are in New Zealand.

This helps you understand when or how you are considered to be in New Zealand for your student loan, even if you might not actually be there.
