Student Loan Scheme Act 2011

Repayment obligations of borrowers - New Zealand-based borrowers' repayment obligations for salary or wages - Unused repayment threshold may be allocated to secondary employment earnings

46: Issue and application of special deduction rate certificate

You could also call this:

“The government can give you a special paper that changes how much money is taken from your pay”

If the Commissioner decides to give you a special deduction rate certificate, they will give you a copy of it. This certificate is important because it cancels any other special deduction rate certificates you had before. However, it doesn’t change your ability to get help if you’re having financial hardship. The rules about hardship relief still apply to you, even with this new certificate.
