Crimes Act 1961

Crimes against the person - Assaults and injuries to the person

191: Aggravated wounding or injury

You could also call this:

“Hurting someone badly on purpose to help with or hide a crime”

If you hurt someone badly on purpose to help you or someone else commit a crime, avoid being caught for a crime, or escape after committing a crime, you can go to prison for up to 14 years. This includes wounding, maiming, disfiguring, or causing serious harm to a person. It also includes making someone unconscious or unable to fight back.

If you injure someone for any of these reasons, but not as seriously, you can go to prison for up to 7 years.

These rules apply to any crime that can result in prison time. The law calls these “imprisonable offences”.
