Crimes Act 1961

Crimes against the person - Assaults and injuries to the person

192: Aggravated assault

You could also call this:

“Hurting someone to help with or cover up a crime, or to stop police from doing their job”

If you attack someone to help you or another person commit a crime that can lead to prison, you could go to jail for up to 3 years. This is called aggravated assault. You could also get up to 3 years in jail if you attack someone to avoid being caught for a crime, or to help yourself or someone else escape after committing or trying to commit a crime.

You might also go to jail for up to 3 years if you attack a police officer, someone helping a police officer, or a person who is carrying out legal duties. This is especially true if you’re trying to stop them from doing their job.
