Crimes Act 1961

Jurisdiction

5: Application of Act

You could also call this:

“This law explains where and when these rules apply in New Zealand.”

This Act applies to you if you do something wrong that can be tried in New Zealand courts. It doesn’t matter if you are a citizen or not.

The Act also covers all actions, or things you didn’t do but should have, that happen within New Zealand. This means if you do something in New Zealand that breaks this law, or if you fail to do something in New Zealand that this law says you must do, then this Act applies to you.
