Crimes Act 1961

Matters of justification or excuse - Breach of the peace

43: Suppression of riot

You could also call this:

"Stopping a riot with reasonable force"

If you are in a situation where a riot is happening, you are allowed to use force to stop it. You can use as much force as you need to suppress the riot, but it must not be too much. The force you use should be equal to the danger that the riot is causing.
