Contracts legislation - Minors’ contracts

85: Interpretation

You could also call this:

“Explaining important words used in this part of the law”

In this part of the law, some important words are explained to help you understand what they mean.

When the law talks about a “court,” it means the High Court or sometimes the District Court or the Disputes Tribunal, depending on what the case is about.

A “minor” is someone who is younger than 18 years old. If you are 18 or older, you are considered to be of “full age.”

“Property” is a big word that means many things. It includes land, money, things you own, and even things you can’t touch but are valuable, like goodwill. Property can be in New Zealand or anywhere else in the world. It also includes things you have the right to use, like easements, and any benefits you might get from property now or in the future.

These explanations help make sure everyone understands what these words mean when they are used in this part of the law.
