Contract and Commercial Law Act 2017

Contracts legislation - Minors’ contracts - Compromise or settlement of claims by minors

106: Who may apply for approval

You could also call this:

“Who can ask the court to approve things for someone under 18”

You or someone else can ask the court to approve an agreement or legal action involving a minor (a person under 18 years old). This approval can be requested in two ways:

  1. You or someone else can ask for approval on behalf of the minor.

  2. Any other person who is part of the agreement or legal action can ask for approval.

The court’s approval is needed to make sure the agreement or legal action is fair and in the best interests of the minor.
