Legislation Act 2019

Drafting and publishing of legislation - Correcting errors and making other editorial changes

88: Changes to numbering

You could also call this:

"Making legislation easier to read by updating the numbering system"

When you want to find or use legislation, it can be hard if the numbering is not clear. The Governor-General can make an order to help with this. They can ask the PCO to publish a new version of legislation with numbered or renumbered provisions.

You can think of this like updating a table of contents in a book. The PCO can also update other related legislation to match the new numbering. This helps keep everything consistent and easy to understand.

If the Governor-General makes an order like this, it is considered secondary legislation, which means it has to follow certain publication rules, and for more information on this, you can look at this link to see how it worked before in 2012 No 119.
