The purpose of this Act is to promote high-quality legislation for New Zealand that is easy to find, use, and understand. This means you should be able to get the information you need quickly and easily. The Act aims to make legislation better for everyone in New Zealand.
This Act does several things to achieve its purpose. It states principles and rules about how to interpret legislation, which helps make sure everyone understands the laws in the same way. The Act also allows legislation to be simpler, shorter, and more consistent, making it easier for you to understand.
The Act provides for all legislation to be published electronically in one place over time, with some exceptions. This means you can find all the laws in one place, making it easier to access the information you need. The Act also provides tools for modernising and simplifying legislation, and for keeping it up to date, which helps ensure the laws are relevant and effective.
The Act supports effective parliamentary and public scrutiny of legislation, which means you and others can review and provide feedback on the laws. It also continues the Parliamentary Counsel Office (PCO) with functions and objectives that promote the purpose of the Act, helping to ensure high-quality legislation for New Zealand.
This helps you and others to understand and work with the laws in New Zealand, and makes sure the laws are easy to find, use, and understand.
